I went to the Porsche dealership with my wife last weekend, she's obsessed with new Porsche Cayenne. I must say that I was extremely impressed with every aspect of the car. The only negative thing I have to say is that it resembles the FX too much. At the same time, it may be the only vehicle on the market that may convince me to trade my baby in!!!!

Would never trade my FX for a Cayenne...

An opinion many share according to some of our "Cayenne or FX" threads in the All Other Rides section (where I'll move this to).

maybe a x5m?????? yeah right now I am looking for a feasible reason to trade my fx in but at the moment if it is not the new M56 I am not even going to consider.
is any model beside the 100k plus faster than the 50s?

I've always been a big fan of the Cayenne, which I know is taboo to say around here. I almost went with the Cayenne S over the FX45, but in the end the FX is just a much better value. The Porsche has a much better interior (at least it did when I made my decision 3 years ago) but I thought the FX was as fast and handled a bit better. I'm waiting to see if they come out with a 6-speed GTS in the new body style in the next year or so though, but if not I might keep the FX and get a Caddy CTS-V. Its been a long time since I've even considered an American car, but 556hp, 0-60 in 3.9sec, and all for about 60K is hard to ignore. Plus c&d and motor trend both rate it higher than the M5 and E63. Trading in the FX on a 90K or so GTS or keeping it and getting what may be the fastest production sedan out there (the panamera turbo is slightly faster but arguably not a sedan?) seems like an easy choice right now. We'll see how I feel a year from now though.

If the FX did not exist - i would probably go for the X6. I know lots of people think it's fugly and Aztek-ish, but i like it.

the x6 is ugly in pictures but in person looks wayyy better, same thing I think about the 09 and 10's fx's, they look better in person.

I love it - just not the price. Same goes for the Cayenne.

not me, I've LOVED it since the spied pics were posted long before they even came out. it gets my attention every time.

THAT said... I had a client that bought a X6 M/// and I got to drive it, I gotta admit... I was expecting more torque... maybe I was a bit reluctant because it wasn't my car... but we went to a (somewhat) secluded street... came to a complete stop, and I gunned it, but there was a curve up ahead, so I let go... perhaps too soon. Still, I LOVE the X6... I didn't cared for the ALL black that my client went with tho... just because it's kinda meh'. I'd take one in white.

About the Cayenne... I was just in the deceleration lane and I saw the headlights of a truck come up on my ass (this was at night so I couldn't see who it was... just looked like a big truck in my rearview)... so I don't feel like wasting gas and I'm close to the off-ramp already so I coast to it and take it as fast as I normally take it... I also accelerate out of it onto the street like a normally do and leave whatever was in my rearview WAY in my rearview... get to a red light and the truck pulls up beside me... it's a friggin CAYENNE... couldn't tell which one cause it was too dark... at the green, he tries to race me a bit... I guess he wanted to feel better about me leaving him WAY behind in a turn...

This is my second FX, both were the second generation FX's (you do the math). I seriously doubt that the FX can out perform the Porsche Cayenne. There are several automakers that sell you their name without producing a comparable product with BMW and Mercedes Benz included. The Cayenne's engineering, craftsmanship, attention to detail, comfort, and quality are unmatched. My FX felt like a Hyundai after test driving the Porsche.

Sounds like you should buy a Cayenne

You do realize that the base Cayenne had a 3.2 litre V6 producing 250 hp, right? So depending on what model it was, it is possible that an FX can out perform a Cayenne.

Cayenne = meh' (under powered heavy car)
Cayenne S = a good match for the FX35
Cayenne Turbo = a FX50S can hang for a little bit... but won't win
Cayenne Turbo S = Don't even bother or even make eye contact with the driver, I just pretend I don't see him lol

Only thing is they sit high cause they're designed to "off-road" as well... I don't know if they handle turns as well as an FX... does anyone know the lateral G's for a Cayenne vs an FX?

I know the S can handle... I've seen one on the track before and it was VERY fast with a decent driver

If I remember correctly, there's an option or something for adjustable ride height... maybe that comes on the S?

I test drove the new turbo- handling and interior are excellent. Sticker on the one I drove was 108K. Even at that price it still looks a bit bland on the exterior. Overall I like it. The rear lights had me scratching my head becuase I coudn't think of what they resembled. Then it hit me when I saw a new Mazda CX9 drive past. It seems like the last generation was a bit more aggressive on the exterior especially the GTS and Turbo.

these might be good 0-60 matches, but that's where they end....0-60. How many of you have actually seen how quick the cayenne is? on the autobahn? Our FX's are great and designed for cruising around 55-80mph. really. Porsche beats the Cayenne around the 'ring. I cant count how many times I've been dusted by a Cayenne on the autobahn. Porsche designs them to operate at higher speeds...I'd still choose my FX over the Cayenne though.

Porsche does have an auto air suspension that adjusts ride height. I've got it on my Q7. It hits the lowest spot when I exceed 100mph. Its pretty odd when I get out of the Q7....the car starts to auto level itself based on how/where I parked....

I had the chance to play with a new Cayenne on a backroad by my house this morning. No results though; I didn't play :P

As for on the track, with equal drivers I think it'd be a closer matchup than you think chief ^^^ I've seen one or two on the track with experienced drivers and it wasn't overwhelmingly quick. One was a GTS and I don't remember what the others were. I honestly don't care either... the Cayenne is nice, yes, but overpriced IMO along with most other German cars. Nissan/Infiniti are following in that trend too unfortunately... the new M and Maximas are pretty overpriced :(

No kidding, it's becoming insane what the newest Infinitis cost once you add options. Never thought the FX would top out in the 60s, or the QX in the 70s. Neither vehicle is worth that much IMO.

cayenne is a very acoplished car on the road and of the road even if it is a moded vw tuareg, it has large brakes standart which dont over heat by the fouth turn, strong engines but it is not the pretiest of cars especialy the first gen, but why would u need an off road Porsche , porsche should be a crazy quick two door with the engine at the back not a two and a half ton suv , and why would any one take it to a race track? ...

Why would ANYONE take ANYTHING to the track? Because it's fun. You can have fun in ANYTHING on the track. AND you will learn too.
